Sugiwaka Mushin (杉若無心)
Mushin SUGIWAKA (year of birth and death unknown) was a busho (Japanese military commander) and daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. He was a member of Kumano Suigun Navy. He is also called Toshichi. He was Governor of Echigo Province. His son was Ujimune SUGIKAWA, and his daughter was Nagahide NIWA's wife (mother of Takayoshi TODO), wife of Sukeshige JINBO and wife of Moromitsu HIROHASHI.
In 1585 Kishu Province was subjugated at the order of Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI whereupon it came under the control of Hidenaga TOYOTOMI and, Naoharu YUKAWA's Tomariyama-jo castle was captured. After the conquest he became lord of Tomariyama-jo castle. In 1590 he moved to the construction of Uenoyama-jo Castle and, received the 19,000 koku Tanabe area in Kii Province. Sometime between 1592 to 1595 he transferred the clan head role to Ujimune.
During the Bunroku War he commanded an army of 650 as Ujimune's funate kumigashira (a head of the group). During the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, as head of the clan he allied with the Western forces however, it was only he who joined the battle. After defeat in the Battle of Sekigahara, he lived in the capital.
